New technologies such asartificial intelligence (AI)<\/strong> and the Big Data<\/strong> allow many advances leading to important societal changes. L'ethics<\/strong>defined as \"the set of moral principles that are the basis of a person's conduct\".<\/strong>is essential to support Science. In anticipation of the impact of AI on the health system<\/strong> and theorganization of care<\/strong>a specific topic was studied during the citizen consultation of the 2018 Estates General on Bioethics<\/a><\/strong> to provide a framework and direction for research on the subject. In parallel, the Villani Report<\/a><\/strong>dedicated to theIA<\/strong> calls on everyone's conscience to carry out ethical research and projects. Kap Code wishes to share his vision on the role of ethics in the use of Big Data and artificial intelligence in health<\/strong>.<\/p>

The advent of Big Data and artificial intelligence in healthcare<\/h2>

The\u00a0advent of the web<\/strong> has profoundly changed our way of life. The arrival ofinternet<\/strong> and the mass of data<\/strong> generated during its use is at the origin of the appearance of the artificial intelligences<\/strong> and the Big Data<\/strong>.
Big Data are already used in many fields such as marketing<\/strong>the finance<\/strong>s, the insurance<\/strong>and the health<\/strong>. Even if the health sector requires particular precautions, the use of Big Data is continuously developing because of its contribution to the medical research<\/strong>, l'Optimization of care<\/strong> and the personalization of medicine.<\/p>

Among the many applications of Big Data<\/strong>we find theartificial intelligence<\/strong>with the development of the Machine Learning<\/strong> (the learning of a machine from provided data) and the Deep Learning<\/strong> (a subfield of Machine Learning that mimics the functioning of the human brain and neural networks).<\/p>

Our company, Kap Code<\/strong>was created as a result of the use of new technologies<\/strong> and the new opportunities<\/strong> that their health applications offer. Our tool Detec't<\/strong><\/a> is a concrete example of the application of Big Data<\/strong> and theIA<\/strong> to health: our algorithms allow us toanalyze<\/strong> the large mass of data generated by Internet users on their health<\/strong>in order to better understand the needs and difficulties of patients.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ways to optimize ethically the use of Big Data and artificial intelligence in health<\/h2>\n

Ethics is a need<\/strong> in the face of all scientific progress. Recent initiatives on the subject include the Villani report<\/strong> <\/a>\"Making Sense of AI,\" the report of the General Assembly on Bioethics<\/a><\/strong> or the Adel label<\/a><\/strong>specialized inethics<\/strong> and the digital data<\/strong>. From our point of view, 3 tracks<\/strong> are to be considered when dealing with ethics in the fields of Big Data<\/strong> and theIA <\/strong>applied to health.<\/p>\n

1. Patient Awareness<\/h3>\n

The patient's role<\/strong> has evolved with the arrival of the Internet. The multiplication of sources of information<\/strong> as well as the possibility of exchange and sharing<\/strong> around the pathologies led the patient to get involved<\/strong> more and more in the management of its health. Internet users must be sensitized<\/strong> whether their data can be used in a health research setting or not. It is also incumbent on companies developing technologies to be transparent<\/strong> and to make it understandable<\/strong> for the general public.<\/p>\n

We will quote here a part of the Villani report: \"The explicability of these technologies is one of the conditions of their social acceptability.<\/strong> On some issues, it is even a matter of principle: we cannot accept, as a society, that certain important decisions can be taken without explanation. Indeed, without the possibility to explain<\/strong> decisions made by autonomous systems, it appears that difficult to justify them<\/strong>. But how can we accept the unjustifiable in such areas as decisive<\/strong> for an individual's life than access to credit, employment, housing, justice or health?\"<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The above points require the taking initiatives and setting up concrete actions<\/strong>. It is important that companies developing Big Data technologies is at the origin of it<\/strong>and therefore start a reflection process<\/strong> in order to be fully aware<\/strong> of their responsibilities.<\/p>\n

This state of mind is in line with the our company values<\/strong>and it is all the more important for us that our reflection on ethics is constantly improving as our company grows<\/strong>. In this last part, we propose to discover the key issues<\/strong>We believe that there are a number of opportunities to explore for companies that share our business framework.<\/p>\n

Issues to consider when developing AI & Big Data solutions in healthcare<\/h2>\n

At the data level<\/h3>\n

The ethical control of health data<\/strong> is at the heart of Kap Code's concerns since its creation. Our start-up is in fact a product of the CRO Kappa Sant\u00e9<\/a><\/strong>whose core business involves health data. It is important to take into account the following aspects:<\/p>\n

More and more regulations<\/strong> are put in place in order to protect individual freedoms<\/strong> to new technologies, such as the implementation of the RGPD (General Data Protection Regulation)<\/a>.<\/strong>  However, these laws can sometimes seem insufficient, as thetechnological evolution exceeds legislative evolution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
