Even though the discipline has been around for at least 30 years.<\/p><p>The main challenge is to be able to translate unstructured data into knowledge in a context of :<\/p><ul><li>An exponential explosion in the volumes and sources of this data.<\/li><li>Awareness of the potential of all sectors of activity.<\/li><\/ul><p>Healthcare is one of the main sectors where the field of possibilities and needs are the strongest. <strong>Data Science opens up considerable opportunities to generate new knowledge for science and patients<\/strong> on the entire drug value chain and the life cycle of citizens and patients.<\/p><p>Biomimicry, identification of new drug candidates, digitization of clinical research, prevention, efficiency of screening and diagnostic tools, telehealth, patient monitoring, precision medicine, real-life benefit\/risk management, drug repositioning, digital medicine... We are only at the beginning!<\/p><p>I think that in the long run, the disruption of the chemical era by digital therapy will be total because it will be more efficient and surely better tolerated.<\/p><p>Let me explain: today, digital technology is used \"around the pill\" and not \"beyond the pill\". It supports chemical and biotechnological drugs. Tomorrow, it is possible that we will be able to treat without the need to use chemistry and biotechnology, but only by using DMs, for example by means of waves.<\/p><p>Indeed, there have long been other ways to treat than chemistry. For example, pacemakers, external electric shocks or seismotherapy are commonly used, but with little investment over time, which explains the lower level of maturity than chemistry. <strong>With new technologies and computing power being multiplied, the growing capacity of Data Science is taking its toll.<\/strong> Tomorrow, perhaps these therapies will be able to grow, to accelerate, as we see digital technology accelerating, and to become the reference therapies.<\/p><p>An example: the work of Prof. Alim-Louis Benabid and the creation of the research center \"\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clinatec.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLINATEC<\/strong><\/a> \".<\/p><p>Today, whether in France, the US or Japan, there are research centers working on these subjects, in various fields of application such as Parkinson's disease, pain, obesity, diabetes, OCD... I am certainly forgetting. These are real trends that are very hard and rising very high.\"<\/p><p><strong>PF<\/strong>\u00a0: \"\u00a0<strong>Data science is an extremely broad subject, even if we reduce it to health.<\/strong> There is image analysis (tumors, X-rays, MRI), personalized medicine, diagnostic assistance, encephalogram analysis, Natural Language Processing (NLP), chatbots... It's very varied.<\/p><p>There is no doubt that data science will open up many new perspectives. Not only completely new perspectives, but also the automation of repetitive tasks (like X-ray analysis). <strong>The main short-term benefit will be time savings for physicians<\/strong> allowing them to put their time and energy into higher value-added tasks for the patient.\"<\/p><p><strong>IH<\/strong>\u00a0I think the arrival of data science is above all an excellent opportunity to rethink what we do and what our missions are. It's true that healthcare has traditionally been a conservative sector, with slow changes, whether in the way molecules are developed or in the way patients are received in hospital. With the arrival of digital technology and the ambitions of tech players in the health sector, we have seen a global rethink of the health sector.<\/p><p><strong>One of the major challenges is to enable healthcare players to reinvent themselves<\/strong> because they have unique skills to contribute to society that should not be lost. Medical knowledge, of course, but also the main principles of precaution, the ability to conduct a clinical study, etc. But they must imperatively integrate the contributions of technology in order to provide more global support, integrate real-life data, etc.<\/p><p>If I take the example of the Blockchain, what I find interesting is that it leads us to ask questions in a different way: about the management of patient consent, traceability, transparency, data ownership, etc. I don't know if the Blockchain is a necessary and most appropriate technology, but in any case the fact that it has been imagined allows us to ask important questions. It's important that these remain tools at the service of \"better being\", hence the importance of everyone taking an interest in them, and especially the historical players in the health sector.\"<\/p><p><strong>This first article<\/strong> presenting the<strong> cross-referenced views<\/strong> of health innovation specialists highlights the<strong> numerous potentialities offered by the new technologies<\/strong>.
